I have a number of different jobs on the go mainly involving trying to grow small companies into bigger ones and hoping that one of them will be Topsy.

Education:

Boarding school, still recovering, Scottish University good degree more by accident than design

Heritage:

Not quite sure what to put here. My great-grandfather was Queen Victoria's piano tuner. Will that do?

Religion:

I go to Church regularly because I have found it a good discipline on a Sunday morning. I'm not sure how I would react if I was presented with a more tempting alternative. But I can hazard a guess.

Politics:

I dislike didacticism and extremism of any kind. I really really don't want to talk about Brexit because it just brings out the worst in everyone.

Appearance:

Presentable. I have lots of ties but it's a while since I have worn one. In all honesty I need to lose a few pounds. Quite a few, actually. Working on it.

Languages Spoken:

French, Oui.

Musical Instruments played:

Piano, Trombone, I sing in a chamber choir. My bass register is getting lower as I get older, which is quite exciting except in the bits when I'm just a glorified tuba.

Music Enjoyed:

Blues, Choral, Classical, Country, Folk, Gaelic, Heavy Rock, Pop, Soft Rock, I can do almost everything except rap. I listen to music more or less constantly either aloud or in my head but it's always chosen with care. I don't tend to listen to the radio but pick my own to suit or inspire the mood.

Sports and exercise:

Gym, Jogging, Running, Swimming, I wouldn't want to over-egg this particular pudding. I consciously got quite fit some years ago but I am frankly badly out of shape now and need a good kick. I have some fairly sophisticated home gym equipment which I dust frequently.

Interests and activities:

Acting, Antiques, Concerts, Countryside, Crosswords, Friends, Reading, Singing, Theatre, Walking, Writing, I do amdram to varying degrees of acclaim. I sing all the time but try to do so under my breath as I find people looking at me strangely in the street otherwise. Not that I remotely care. I haven't owned a TV for about six years although I do like a good film.

Animals and Pets:

Newspapers and magazines:

Private Eye, Not much choice, is there? I occasionally read the Telegraph or the Guardian, both of which are guaranteed to raise my blood pressure, albeit for different reasons. I do like the Telegraph cryptic crossword which I flatter myself I am quite good at.

Books:

Bill Bryson, George Orwell, J. R. R. Tolkien, Jack Kerouac, Louis de Bernieres, Mervyn Peake, Struggling a bit here. I read a lot of non-fiction and I have a secret passion for old style thriller and mystery stories (1900-1960). Back in the day I spent quite a lot of money on first editions which gather cobwebs nicely.

Favourite Films:

Casablanca, From Russia with Love, Maltese Falcon, Once again, it's a bit limited, isn't it? Why anyone would want to curl up and watch Reservoir Dogs or Psycho is beyond me, but a chacun son gout, I suppose (told you I can speak French)

Enjoyable evening out:

Restaurant, Pub, Wine bar, Live Music, I am happiest face to face in a restaurant or a pub having a good chat. Doesn't have to be heavy - I'm a pretty good conversationalist and like to hear you talk. I do like going to gigs but often it's just as much fun nattering.

Favourite Dishes:

A Chinese banquet, Fish and Chips, Lobster Thermidor, Pate de Foie Gras, Roast Beef and Yorkshire pudding, Smoked Salmon, Steak and chips, Veal Escalope, Not good at Indian. Excellent at Le Gavroche, if you're offering.

Ideal Holiday:

Backpacking in the Himalayas, Driving across the US, Lying on a beach in the Caribbean, Safari in Africa, Scuba diving in Thailand, Let's be honest, anything except golf.....

In another life:

Dr Doolittlle, Elvis, Mozart, a golden eagle, Thoughts: I'd like to be all these things but only if I was any good at them. Talking to the animals would be nice, but spending 28 years in prison reminding myself that I chose to be Nelson Mandela might try my patience a bit.

Personality:

Affectionate, Adventurous, Aware, Caring, Cheerful, Courageous, Considerate, Creative, Eccentric, Friendly, Generous, Humorous, Imaginative, Intellectual, Loving, Reliable, Romantic, Sensitive, Sentimental, Thoughtful, Depends where, doesn't it? Very comfortable with people I know and courageous in unfamiliar surroundings but it takes a while to open up under those circumstances.
